I save the positions of desktop icons. When I click restore, they move about in some random position.
Running the latest Ultramon beta on Vista 64.
P.S. Unclicking "preserve position of desktop icons" doesn't help.

Do you use UltraMon menu > Disable/Enable Secondary occasionally? This will also save/restore icon positions.

While I can confirm this. My experience its not random. After a cold-boot, about 2 or 3 icons(always the same ones) always move from its original location to the same location after windows finishes loading. Its usually only 1 space away though..

I thought it might have been because I am using remote desktop while I'm at work, but it's only a select few icons on the main monitor only(!) that exhibit this behavior.

Matt, do the icons get placed on top of each other? This would happen if the icons have the same name.

Nope, Ive never seen icons overlap each other. They just move down or over when Ultramon starts.

If it happens during UltraMon startup, it could also be due to the Smart Taskbar. This is a Windows issue though, happens when adding a desktop toolbar to a secondary monitor.
To verify this, you could disable the Smart Taskbar under UltraMon Options > Smart Taskbar and check if you still have the problem.

I see the same. A couple of desktop icons will move around on the secondary monitor (where most of my icons are) on startup. It also happens if i disable/enable the secondary monitor.
It makes no difference whether the smart taskbar is enabled or not.

I have two icons with the same name that point to two versions of the same program. The programs are both stored in the same folder and have different exe names.
When I restore, one icon takes the place of the other and the other moves down one row.
On Vista 32

Greg, UltraMon can't handle icons with the same name correctly, you would need to rename one of the icons.
