Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Smart Taskbar not showing???
ajm786   2007-10-04 01:11
I just installed Vista Ultimate x64, and then the latest beta of Ultramon. The problem is, the smart taskbar does not show up on Display 2. Display 2 is on the left of my main monitor. Instead, there is a blank line, where the Smart Taskbar is supposed to be. If I disable Display 2, the blank line shows up right above the original taskbar.

Any clues to help me out on this?

Does restarting UltraMon fix the problem?

To do this, first close UltraMon via the UltraMon icon in the system tray, then start it again via the shortcut in Start Menu > Programs.

Restarting Ultramon doesn't fix the problem. Reboots, uninstallation, reinstallation, nothing. It always displays the same behavior.

I got the same problem with a vista x64 pc!
ajm786   2007-10-05 02:10
I did something last night, that might have fixed it, but I'm not sure, since Vista froze, and I never rebooted into Vista after that. I'll try tonight.

I reset the theme to Classic instead of Aero. When I did that, the Smart Taskbar showed! Then, I switched back to Aero, and, guess what! It worked!!!

But not out of the woods yet, because, like I said, Vista froze, and I can't be sure of what caused it, so, I'll try it tonight and report back.

I do have more or less the same problem but with MS Windows Vista Ultimate x86. The Smart Taskbar didn't show at all until I changed the theme from Windows Vista to Windows Classic. If I switch back to Windows Vista theme the Smart Taskbar may remain or not. If it does it's for some time only. After that I have to restart this theme switching procedure all over again if I do want both Aero and the Smart Taskbar! I solution to this would be very welcome!

Freddy, do you get any error messages when this happens?

The Smart Taskbar (version 3.0 Beta 1) works fine for me with Aero on both 32-bit and 64-bit Vista.

No, no error or warning at all. It just stops showing. I'm using the latest beta of UltraMonitor and the Windows Taskbar is set to autohide.

best regards
ajm786   2007-10-08 01:21
There you have it. Freddy is absolute right. After some detailed testing over the weekend, his conclusion is absolutely correct. You would have to keep switching themes back and forth in order to get the smart taskbar to stay properly. Also, sometimes it loses color, and has to be restarted.
Christian Studer   2007-10-08 09:05
ajm786, are you also using autohide?

i have a similar issue with my smart task bar not showing up in vista 32bit with the aero theme. however, when i switch to vista classic, it shows up perfectly. Here's a couple of my symptoms:

move monitor button invisible but still clickable

smart task bar not showing up anymore and all my windows cannot go full screen on the secondary monitor

when i restart ultramon in order to try to make it re-appear, a invisible task bar appears on top of my main bar. When i say invisible, i mean it's just a line that's supposed to be a taskbar or something but it's on the wrong screen

I also have windows sidebar enabled and I think it might be doing something funky on it but it still doesn't show up after uninstall/reinstall. It worked beautifully at first but i can't function without it! Please help!
Christian Studer   2007-10-13 08:26
peter, are you using autohide for the taskbar?

What are your settings for the sidebar? For example is it configured to be on top of other windows?

Christian Studer - www.realtimesoft.com
peter   2007-10-13 08:46
not using autohide for taskbar, should i toggle it on? and I've tried closing the side bar and restarting ultramon but still doesn't work. When the sidebar is on, it's not always on top.
Christian Studer   2007-10-14 07:59
That's not necessary, just thought it might be related to autohide. I'm using the same taskbar and sidebar settings as you.

For further troubleshooting, please post the system information you get from UltraMon's About dialog when using the Aero theme. To access the About dialog, right-click the UltraMon icon in the system tray and select About from the menu.

Thanks for the information. Looks okay, except that the workspace coordinates are a bit unusual.

Are you using a multi-row taskbar, or do you have multiple toolbars stacked at the bottom of both monitors?

Christian Studer - www.realtimesoft.com
ajm786   2007-10-18 09:09
Sorry for the long delay.

No, no autohide, no stacked nothing. Just one Smart Taskbar on Monitor 2, which is to my left.
peter   2007-10-18 09:59
My windows taskbar is multirow, 3 to be exact. Will thatbe an issue? Even when i set it to one row, it still won't show up.
Christian Studer   2007-10-19 10:19
peter, that shouldn't be a problem. If you maximize a window to the desktop via UltraMon, does it cover everything except for the taskbars or is there a lot of free screen space?

Christian Studer - www.realtimesoft.com
Peter   2007-10-23 03:35
there's one bar of free space above it. The program works perfectly in vista classic mode but in aero mode, it's super buggy.
Christian Studer   2007-10-23 09:46
Do you have any shell enhancement applications running, for example WindowBlinds or something similar?

Christian Studer - www.realtimesoft.com
peter   2007-11-08 12:23
it's on a fresh vista install, no windowblinds or anything else.
Christian Studer   2007-11-09 08:07
Are you using a custom font/DPI setting, and XP style DPI scaling is unchecked?

I have the same problem. As long as I was running Vista 32Bit it worked fine.
Yesterday I upgraded to Vista 64 Bit and since then the Smart Taskbar does not show up anymore even though it is enabled in the options.

I use a Geforce 8800GTS with the latest drivers.

Also, I haven't customized much yet, so things like Window Blinds or custom font settings don't seem to be the issue.

Any help is much appreciated!
Christian Studer   2007-11-13 11:21
Which version of UltraMon are you using, and do you have the 64-bit version installed?

Christian Studer - www.realtimesoft.com
Jaws   2007-11-14 02:26
Ok, I solved it. Sorry for the premature post above. ;-)

What I did was install Vista x64, run the x64 Ultramon Beta 3 installer - telling it to repair the old installation. Obviously that did not work, now I completely uninstalled it and after a clean reinstall everything works fine.

I am also having a similar problem with my taskbar not showing up on display 2. I have the newest ultramon installed for vista ultimate 32bit. When i first boot up the computer, the taskbar appears, but then both screen blinks and the taskbar is gone. I believe this to be a sidebar issue. Please help!
Christian Studer   2008-02-16 10:26
Nick, what happens if you close UltraMon, then restart it via the shortcut in Start Menu > Programs?

Christian Studer - www.realtimesoft.com
Greg Stevens   2008-02-21 02:58
Found a fix! I am running 64 bit Vista and had this issue arise. Try this:

1) Right click the top task bar (the one created by UltraMon, above the standard task bar)

2) Add Taskbar for -> Monitor 2

3) Now you should have a second taskbar where you want it but still have that other annoying one above the standard windows one. Just right click the extra one and click Close. Then when it asks "Choose what you want to do:", select "close only this taskbar".

Then life is good again!
Nick   2008-03-31 16:19
okay so i tried just about everything and still having trouble with the taskbar on my secondary monitor show up. It does appear briefly when vista is starting up, BUT then the screen flashes and the taskbar disappers on my secondary display. I believe this to be a sidebar issue. Everytime i boot up vista, i have to close ultramon and then open it up again and everything is back to normal until the next reboot. Please help.
Christian Studer   2008-04-01 10:25
Nick, you could delay UltraMon startup.

To do this, run regedit.exe, go to the key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime Soft\UltraMon\<version>', double-click on the AutoStartDelay value, select Decimal, then enter the number of seconds by which automatic startup should be delayed.

i think autodelay might have just fixed my problem! Thank you so much!
