I've run into a couple of issues with Vista and the 3.0 beta 1 version of Ultramon.
1. Sometimes a program does not show up on the correct taskbar, or it will be on the taskbar in both monitors.
2. When I start a program with "run as administrator" many ultramon features do not work on that program including hotkeys, the buttons that show up on the menu bar, sometimes i lose the ability to maximise or minimize windows, basically it seems as if ultramon cannot gain control over the window that is running as administrator.
2b. I decided to try running ultramon as administrator to see if that fixed things. I ended up with the opposite, all programs started normally could not be controlled by ultramon, and all programs running as administrator worked with ultramon.
Thanks, Matt

Note that this is only when UAC is turned on. Things seem to run pretty smoothly with UAC off.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm going to look into this for the next release.

Just wanted to confirm that this is also a problem with my installation of v3.0 Beta 1 on Vista Ultimate x64. The windows management buttons do not appear when a program is run as Administrator.

On the 32bit version of Vista I have the same issue where windows do not appear on the correct taskbar. This happens very frequently and is correctable sending to other screen and then back to the screen that I want it on.
Note: I notice this most often when running Microsoft OneNote 2007, but it also occurs with other programs.

I am new to Ultramon but so far it is great. I just had some questions on how to tweek it. I am using version 3.0 Beta 1 and monitor 1 Dell 2007 WFP max res 1650x 1050 and monitor 2 Dell 2407 WFP max res 1920 x 1200 witha Nvdia Geforce 8800 GTS. The primary monitor is the smaller 21" LCD. I am running vista and I wanted to know if I could get the side gadgets to appear on monitor 2 the 24" and if I could get rid of the black box around monitor 2 when I have the resolution at 1920 X 1200? The only way to get rid of the black box is to set it to a lower resolution to match the primary one. Here is a screen shot of monitor 1 Here is monitor 2 Well I can't post a screen shot of monitor 2 but is has a black border all around the vista screen. It looks like a black picture frame.

Not via UltraMon, but you can move the Sidebar to a different monitor via Control Panel > Windows Sidebar Properties.
The issue with the black frame around the wallpaper is due to the wallpaper style, setting this to Stretch will fix the problem.
If you're using UltraMon to manage wallpapers, you can do this via UltraMon menu > Wallpaper. Otherwise the option is under Control Panel > Personalization > Desktop Background, 'How should the picture be positioned'.

Thanks, you fixed my problem! The picutre in "how should the picutre be positioned?" is deceiving because I have to pick the setting with the black border in order to not get the back border. You are the man. Thanks again.

I'm running 3.0b1 under Vista Ultimate. On restart, my secondary monitor displays the same wallpaper as the primary monitor -- it has lost the wallpaper settings.
It might be related to company network settings: I was temporarily using a roaming profile, but not now. Ultramon is saving new wallpaper profiles to C:\Users\[mylogin]\AppData\Roaming\Realtime Soft\UltraMon\3.0.0\Wallpapers.
Is this correct? Is it configurable?
Other issues: - I can't see the Move to Other Monitor button on the title bar, but it is there and it works. - Occasionally the taskbars get confused, as others have reported.

Changing the location of the wallpaper folder is not supported.
What happens if you go to UltraMon menu > Wallpaper and create a new wallpaper?
Support for the window buttons under Vista is planned for the next release.

> What happens if you go to UltraMon menu > Wallpaper and create a new wallpaper?
I can create a new wallpaper profile. I can see my previous wallpaper profile. I can select them and they work perfectly.
The problem is that, during the login phase (and I think it may be when UltraMon is initialising), the wallpaper profile gets reset to "None".
Observed behaviour: the wallpaper starts off as 2 separate images, as it was when I logged off. Then it changes to mirroring the primary monitor's wallpaper on the secondary monitor.
I have to manually reselect a wallpaper profile within UltraMon after each login to get back to 2 separate images again.

I'm running UltraMon 3.0 beta 1 on Vista Business. The move to other monitor button works on most windows, however it does not work with IE 7.

David, sounds like the wallpaper gets changed by another application, or maybe via group policy if you are on a company network.
If you go to Control Panel > Personalization > Desktop Background, what's set as your wallpaper?
crazyburns, you'll need to disable protected mode for IE, the option is under Tools > Internet Options > Security.
This issue should be fixed in the next release.

> If you go to Control Panel > Personalization > Desktop Background, what's set as your wallpaper?
During login it appears to be changed to C:\Users\davidw\AppData\Local\Temp. After I set it again inside UltraMon it shows as C:\Users\davidw\AppData\Local\Realtime Soft\UltraMon. I went through the Group Policy settings with our admin, and there appear to be none for my PC that affect wallpaper, or folders.
One thing I noticed when setting up a new wallpaper profile -- didn't there used to be an option to save the new wallpaper profile for All Users? That is not offered now. Was that a deliberate change?
Is anyone else with Vista having these problems?

Virtual desktop managers or wallpaper changers could change the wallpaper. Also applications like the Nvidia nView Desktop Manager or Webshots.
The all users wallpaper option was dropped for 3.0, mainly to make backing up settings easier by storing all files in a single per-user folder.

Thanks for all your responses. I have found the culprit. Our Systems people were using BGInfo. It alters the wallpaper settings during startup.
Having convinced them to turn that off for my computer, the problem is solved. But at least now you know of another potential source of problems. :-)
