- on Windows Me, Outlook Express hangs during startup if the Smart Taskbar is running. This problem does not occur on Windows 2000.

Workaround: turn off the Smart Taskbar in Options so that it doesn't start automatically, then start UltraMonTaskbar.exe manually after you have started Outlook Express. UltraMonTaskbar.exe is installed in the UltraMon directory, usually C:\Program Files\UltraMon.

If you find any other applications that don't work with the Smart Taskbar, please report them here. Also include the operating system you are using.

Not a bug, but two minor cosmetic things with the new taskbar. First, if you click on an item in the main taskbar, then click it again, the normal functionality is to minimize the window. So you can minimize & maximize just by hitting the button twice. It'd be nice to have that functionality.

The other cosmetic thing is the horizontal spacing between buttons. Right now they are right next to each other, on the main taskbar there's a 3 or 4 pixel spacer.

Minimize with left-click will be added, not sure if the spacing will work.

I did notice a link with smart taskbars and OE under WinXP...i was messing about with the taskbar (you can actually use ultramon to put it on another monitor and keep the buttons on it, hehe)and managed to get it pretty much fullscreen with no way to resize its height, hehe :P

So anyway, i could not get it back to normal without uninstalling and reinstalling ultramon, and when i did that, i had to close OE before it would procede....not a real problem and its certainly working fine with both running, just thought id mention it.

Another bug...

I use the program PowerPlus by BPS Software - http://www.bpssoft.com/PowerPlus/index.htm . It combines AIM windows into one master program with tabs for each IM window. The smart taskbar splits out each AIM into a button on the taskbar though, instead of just the tab for PowerPlus. I think they have a free demo if you want to try it out.

Here's another...

When I'm using Photoshop in my second monitor where the smart taskbar is and try to use the save for web feature I can't get focus into the save dialog to save the file out. I think it's because the smart taskbar keeps moving photoshop back onto itself instead of on the main taskbar, but I'm not sure.

How about a setting whereby all open apps would show on both taskbars at the same time rather than splitting them up by what monitor they are on? It's a small concern, but would be a nice option.

Thanx

Why would you want to do this?

Because I think it would be convenient and it's something I had wished Windows would have supported even before I found out about UltraMon.

Like I said, it's a small concern, but you asked for feedback about the Smart Taskbar and I'm simply giving it to you.

I was interested in hearing why you would find the feature useful.

The main design goal for the Smart Taskbar was to eliminate the need to search for an application after you have activated it, because you already know on which monitor it will appear.

One useful feature of mirrored taskbars could be that you can switch tasks on the monitor you are currently working on, without having to look elsewhere. Let me know if that's what you had in mind.

I suppose that I want "all" my taskbars to be just what their names imply; task bars for all tasks. When I have several apps open at once, usually I can only see the couple of apps that are at the front of the screen and cannot tell what's behind each screen. The way you have Smart Taskbar set up now, I have to search for the correct screen that the task is displayed on. The way I'd like it, all I'd have to do is drop down to any taskbar and find the app I need and click on it. No searching, no looking around, just a complete list of all tasks running regardless of what monitor they happen to be displayed on.

You don't sound like you're very receptive to this idea and that's fine, because I'm having trouble with Outlook Express 6 locking while I'm using Smart Taskbar in Win98.

I'm working on an update for the Smart Taskbar to address the problems mentioned here, and will also add a new mirror mode.

You will be able to choose between Standard mode, which shows each task on a single taskbar, depending on the task's position, and Mirror mode, which will show all tasks on all taskbars.

I hope to have the update ready some time next week.
