If I hook up a tablet pc to a desktop machine, can I still use its pen interface to navigate the desktop machine?

I'm not aware of a way to do this, UltraMon also won't help with this.

This is not an Ultramon issue. The issue is with the tablet PC's pen driver. Usually these will only map the tablet area one-for-one onto the monitor.

If you need tablet functionality with external LCDs, you should buy a Wacom tablet, which will allow you to map it over one or both monitors (albeit sacrificing usable area on the tablet). As a matter of fact, the vast majority of tablet PCs use Wacom technology, in which case you can use the same stylus interchangeably with your tablet PC and with your Wacom tablet.

You might be shocked at how expensive a standalone Wacom tablet is, however! The most economical way to get Wacom pen technology is to buy it bundled with a tablet PC, where you only pay incremental cost instead of retail.

Also, if you're used to the one-to-one correspondence of a tablet PC, you may have to get used to the magnification of a standalone tablet. I have a 4x6" tablet mapped across two 19" monitors. This is about as far as you can go before hand steadiness becomes an issue.
