I am using a Dell Lattitude D820 Laptop and Sony monitor. When I play back videos or use my web camera the image is played on both monitors. (full screen on the Sony which is set for primary monitor) Is there a way to disable this so I only see the image on one monitor ?

Sounds like the video card's video mirroring feature is enabled, disabling it should fix the problem. See the FAQ for more on this.

I am having the same problem. It only occurs with video playback all other applications are fine.

Same here! I've got a Dell Latitude D820, and I came to this forum specifically to troubleshoot this problem.

Any more ideas?

Just to clarify we have the same problem, if i open a video application on my left screen it also opens in full screen on the other monitor and i am unable to clsoe it. If i attempt to move the window to the other monitor where the full screen view is loacted it then moves the fullscreen image to the other monitor. So at all time there are two copies of the video.

Ahhhh! I got it solved for the D820.

Using the link posted above in the FAQ, it states this:

***********
When playing a video, it is also shown fullscreen on the other monitor
This happens if the video mirroring feature of your video card is enabled. You can disable this option on the tab for your video card under advanced display properties, Nvidia calls this feature Full Screen Video, for ATI video cards it is called theater mode, and Matrox calls it PureVideo/DVDMax.
************

...well, that's not exactly the solution, it's a little different/more than that (at least on the D820).

Go to Display Properties. "Settings" tab. Click "Advanced". Then go to the tab that says "Quadro NVS 110M" or similar. Select "Start the NVIDIA Control Panel".

Once inside the NVIDIA control panel app, go to the "Video & Television" icon. Select "Modify full-screen video options". Then select "Only show it in my viewing application".

Click "Apply" and exit.

That's it!

Fixed it for me.

Thanks that worked great

Im jsut confused as to how it changed to that setting itself.

Yeah, I don't know. It must be the system default on our particular laptops for some reason.

This started happening to me when I selected the option "Play on my [monitor name]" from the right-click menu of a video file. Selecting this menu option seems to automatically change the full-screen video option to the "Also show..." choice.

(I was able to change it back as described in this thread.)
