Under certain conditions (generally when there are several windows open on a system) - I've noticed a long delay in displaying the task bar on the main screen (with the Start button).
During the lag - the general shape of the taskbar is displayed but the "Start" button and application buttons are missing. Where these items should be there is a "hole" effect where I can see through the taskbar; the wallpaper is exposed.
The extra taskbars (the ones added by UltraMon) don't exhibit the same behavior.
The lag can range from under a second (fresh boot, no open windows) to about 5 seconds.
UltraMon is used on some of our multi-monitor machines that I support. The same behavior is noted on all machines running UltraMon.
I can reproduce an extended lag by opening winword and then copy-pasting a web page from IE with graphics, etc. Then lock and unlock the machine. In all cases where i've noticed a long lag, winword.exe has been loaded with a decent amount of data that I copied-pasted; can't say if this is a direct correlation yet.
Has anyone else had this issue and resolved? Several of our users are noticing the lag. They assume that their machine is just slow - but removing UltraMon eliminates the problem the completely. Obviously we want to keep the benefit of the Smart Taskbar, but without the unlock lag.

I've seen this as well when memory usage is higher than the amount of physical RAM installed.
I don't know if it's caused by UltraMon though. My guess would be that it's a memory issue, keep in mind that closing UltraMon will also free up resources.
Having an instance of Word open with a pasted web page didn't reproduce the issue for me. I pasted the msn.com homepage into Word 2003 for testing. When running the test there was still ample free memory left.

I'm having the same problem too. Here's a screen shot. And I'm not over the physical RAM installed.

Did you find a way to reproduce this issue consistently?
I'm seeing this as well occasionally (also with low memory usage), but the problem persists after closing UltraMon, and I haven't found a way to reproduce the issue consistently.

Yes, it happens for me every time. What's weird is that I tried to close and even uninstall UltraMon, but the problem persists. I have a question, does UltraMon undo its changes to explorer.exe when uninstalling? If not, any idea how I can restore the original file, just to check if there lies the problem?
I also found that the more programs I have in memory, the longer it takes the taskbar to recover from the screen-saver. Although I have to say again, that I do not pass the physical memory limit.

UltraMon doesn't make any changes to system files or settings.

I would like to post an update on this issue. It appears the culprit was Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall. After replacing it with another firewall, the reported problem has gone away. Sorry for blaming you guys! :)
