Forums -> UltraMon™ -> WeatherBug runs at 100% CPU after UltraMon 2.6 Install

I upgraded to UltraMon 2.6 yesterday, and after the reboot and subsequent login into Windows, the WeatherBug application appeared to stop working. It would run at 100% CPU, rendering many other applications inoperative.

WeatherBug is a weather application that is described by weatherbug.com as "WeatherBug (r) is a free application for PC users that streams live neighborhood weather conditions, severe weather warnings, civil emergency alerts, and forecasts to your desktop."

The WeatherBug GUI was still somewhat responsive, and if I could close it and make it "run in the tray," then everything was fine. But if I caused the GUI to be displayed, WeatherBug (Weather.exe) was back to 100%. I thought that perhaps it was a proxy issue, but even after tinkering with the WeatherBug settings, it didn't help.

My next course of action was to ask, "what has changed?" The only change to my system was the upgrade of UltraMon. So, with WeatherBug unresponsive (and displayed), I right-clicked the UltraMon tray icon and selected Close. UltraMon closed and immediately WeatherBug was restored to proper working order. Restarting UltraMon immediately brought WeatherBug back to its unusable state (and 100% CPU utilization).

I recalled a past problem with Microsoft Access crashing when using UltraMon controls to move it from one window to another, so I decided to try "excluding" WeatherBug from UltraMon's custom controls. I see that "msaccess.exe" is excluded from the "Window Menu" custom controls. Since WeatherBug doesn't use a standard window, but instead has its own fancy GUI, I thought that perhaps the Window Title Bar buttons were the offenders. Sure enough, adding Weather.exe to the "No custom buttons for the following applications" restored WeatherBug to proper working order.

Below are details of my system, including versions of the OS and "offending" applications.

My guess is that this isn't a ultramon issue. It might be ultramon related since it sounds like weatherbug keep checking if it's visible on the screen having the startmenu... Try moving the windows startmenu to another monitor and check if you have the same problems there.
Does weatherBUG only mess up when it's on the monitor with the ultramon taskbar?
And in my opinion never trust a program who have a non-standarized GUI.

Hope this helps isolating the problem! :)

Sorry, I guess I should've been more clear. I've had both UltraMon and WeatherBug running on here for ages. I've never had a problem with either application.

That's why I was able to isolate the problem quickly...typically one of the first troubleshooting steps is assess what has changed. In this case, UltraMon was upgraded from v2.5 to v2.6.

Also, I have WeatherBug running in the "main" monitor with the Windows taskbar, not the Smart Taskbar.
