just wanted to give everyone a heads up that may experience a similar problem. I have been back and forth with Discreet's tech support about this, even reformatted my computer to try and wipe everything clean. There seems to have been some issue with Ultramon and 3DSMAX, where max would open up alright, and run ok, until you tried to access any options from a drop down bar. MAX would completely freeze. Talking with Discreet's tech support about this, someone else was having a similar problem, and it's lucky for me that they were able to solve the problem when I called. I have since had to disable Ultramon to be able to use max properly. Seems to be something with the current version of the trial download.

Please check if you still have this issue after installing the second patch for 2.6, my guess would be that this issue has been fixed as well.
