Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Smrt Taskbar won't un-hide on secondary monitor
AndrewB   2005-06-13 05:22
Just installed 2.6 and noticed that if there's a maximized window on the secondary screen, the Smart Taskbar won't "un-hide" when you go to the bottom of the screen. If you restore the window down the Smart Task bar will pop up as normal.

This is a change in 2.6, if a fullscreen application is open on the monitor the UltraMon taskbar will no longer show itself if you move the mouse to the screen edge.

See the release notes for information on enabling the old behavior.

Thank you. Seems odd to me.

Hmm.. It should be able to be changed in the options dialog, not regedit, I think.
Christian Studer   2005-06-15 23:57
Support for the old behavior will most likely be removed in a future release.

If you would like to keep using the old behavior, please let me know how you use this feature.

Please note that this change only affects fullscreen applications (games, fullscreen remote sessions, etc), maximized applications are not affected.

If a maximized application is open on a monitor, the taskbar is still available, and if you are using autohide, it will show itself when you move the mouse to the screen edge.

Unfortunatly for me, it does not. If I have an aplication maximized it will not un-hide the taskbar. I had to change the registry entry as laid out in the release notes.

I wouldn't mind this if it was just for fullscreen aps, but for me it's for maximized windows too.

I am running Win XP Pro on an Acer laptop. Not sure about video drivers or anything.

Does this happen with all applications, for example also with Internet Explorer?

how about making this feature optional?

Yes, all windows apps, including Office apps, are plagued by this problem.

I have uploaded a test version of the UltraMon taskbar for further troubleshooting:

1) download UltraMonTaskbarTest.exe

2) close UltraMon, then run UltraMonTaskbarTest.exe

3) move a non-maximized Internet Explorer window to the monitor with the UltraMon taskbar

4) maximize the Internet Explorer window, then restore it again

5) press F11 to switch Internet Explorer to fullscreen mode, then press F11 again to restore it to normal mode

6) right-click the UltraMon taskbar and select Close from the menu

7) send the file UltraMonTaskbarTest.log to support@realtimesoft.com, the log file gets created in the folder where UltraMonTaskbar.exe was placed

I have now been able to reproduce this issue, and am currently working on a solution.

If the UltraMon taskbar is using autohide, and you are using Windows 98/Me/2000, or XP and later with the classic visual style, the taskbar will not be accessible if a maximized window is on the monitor with the taskbar.

As a workaround, run regedit.exe, go to the key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime Soft\UltraMon\Smart Taskbar', add a new DWORD value named LegacyFullScreenAppBehavior and set it to 1.

This issue has been fixed, see Third patch for UltraMon 2.6 released for the patch.

Hi,

I just built a new machine and am seeing this problem again. My work machines do fine -- I don't recall whether they're using the registry workaround or not. All of the above are running the latest patch.

To be totally clear: when I run a fullscreen TS client on a non-primary monitor, I expect that mousing to the bottom of the screen will pop up the (client's) Smart Taskbar.
Christian Studer   2006-02-06 22:41
To be able to unhide the taskbar with a fullscreen app open, you'll need to enable the legacy fullscreen app behavior as described above.

By default UltraMon 2.6 won't show the taskbar if a fullscreen app is open on the monitor.

Ok. Please don't remove this feature in future releases :)
Christian Studer   2006-02-08 11:46
It won't be removed in UltraMon 2, but Beta 1 of UltraMon 3 no longer supports it.

Would a hotkey or something similar to unhide the taskbar work for you?

I had the same problem. A hotkey, or a configuration option somewhere in the menu, or ANYTHING but editing the registry every time I start work on this computer every day would be great.

Does your user profile get reset everytime you log in?

You should only need to enable the legacy fullscreen app behavior via the registry once.
