I'm uninstalled and re-installed Ultramon, but the Wallpaper menu option does nothing. I am not able to manage the wallpapers at all.

Do you get an error message when clicking on the Wallpaper menu option, or does nothing at all happen?

Nothing happens at all. When Ultramon starts, a crash screen does appear.
"UltraMonDesktop.exe has encountered an problem and needs to close.."
Everything continues to work after this message, except the wallpaper option.

Does the crash occur in UltraMon.dll?
To see in which module the crash occurred, click the 'more information' link on the crash message and take a look at ModName.

ModName: ultramondesktop.exe
I've uninstalled and reinstalled, without change.

Might still be worth a try to install an updated version of UltraMon.dll: UltraMon.dll.zip
To install the file, close UltraMon, then extract the ZIP file to your system directory, usually C:\Windows\System32. Please note that this file will only work with Windows 2000/XP or later.
Another user had a similar issue, which was related to a bug in UltraMon.dll.

I installed the new .dll file and I'm having the same problems.

For further troubleshooting, I have uploaded a special test version of UltraMonDesktop.exe: UltraMonDesktop.zip. Please note that this file is for Windows 2000/XP or later only.
To install it, extract the ZIP file to your UltraMon installation folder, usually C:\Program Files\UltraMon.
Restart UltraMon after installing the file, then after you have closed the crash message ('UltraMonDesktop.exe has encountered a problem'), go to the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson and send me the user.dmp file to support@realtimesoft.com.
The user.dmp file contains more information about the application crash.

Update on this issue: the problem was due to a system component used by UltraMon not being correctly registered.
Registering the component again fixed the problem. A .reg file which does this is available for download: ActiveDesktopComp.reg

You can download older releases here.
What happens when you select Wallpaper from the UltraMon menu?

Same problem and it's never worked since I had the software.
I open the ultramon wallpaper dialog. Select my two wallpapers.
The preview looks just fine, then when I click apply nothing happens. My background remains the same identical blue background colour that it was before.

Some things you could check:
- does generating the wallpaper bitmap work? After hitting Apply, you should have a bitmap file with the same name as the wallpaper in your My Documents\My Wallpapers folder, for example the bitmap for the Default wallpaper would be named Default.bmp
- does the wallpaper bitmap get set as the active wallpaper? To verify this, open Windows Display Properties, then select the Desktop tab and check if your wallpaper, for example Default, is the active wallpaper

UltraMon does indeed create the wallpaper bitmap (in My Wallpapers)... but it does not set the wallpaper in display properties.
To test it a bit more... iset a wallpaper using display properties then tried setting a wallpaper using ultramon. I noticed when I click Apply to the ultramon dialog my wallpaper is reset to the default "(none)".
Also when I try to set my wallpaper (via disp-prop) to the one saved in My Wallpapers it set the wallpaper but one on each screen.

I have uploaded a test program which tries to activate the Default wallpaper and writes the results to a file: SetWpTest.exe
Before running SetWpTest.exe, make sure you have a wallpaper named Default, and that the wallpaper has been applied at least once (so that the .bmp file has been generated). The wallpaper needs to be located in the user wallpaper folder, not the shared folder.
Please post the contents of the generated log file here or mail it to support@realtimesoft.com.
