I'm trying to find out why enabling an external monitor reduces the color depth (or resolution) on the internal monitor. When I use Ultramon's Display Setting function to enable the external monitor and Apply the change, the color depth of the internal LCD is changed from 32 bit to 16 bit.
Does Ultramon have some kind of a tool that can be used to understand what's going on? It seems to me more complicated than just not having enough memory on the video adapter as 16MB should be more than enough (and was for almost 3 years).
The system is a Dell Inspiron 8100 with a 16 MB GeForce2Go video adapter running Win/XP SP2. I've run the external monitor with 800 x 600 resolution and 8 bit color.
Thanks

If it worked with a previous version of the display driver, it might be due to the monitor type selected for the internal monitor.
You could also try if unchecking 'Hide modes that this monitor cannot display' allows you to select 32-bit color, the setting is under Windows Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > Monitor.
