whenever i do a restart Ultramon doesn't detect mymonitor setup after installing Win XP SP2. It worked correctly before SP2. My second monitor displays copy of the primary monitor. Before and after settings are below:-

Here are the settings before restart->

2 monitors
Current desktop: 2880x1200 (0,0 - 2880,1200)

Monitor 1 - Plug and Play Monitor (primary):
Settings: 1600x1200, 32-bit color, 60 Hz refresh rate
Coordinates: 0,0 - 1600,1200. Workspace: 0,0 - 1600,1136
Video card: Dell 8200
Device: \\.\DISPLAY1\Monitor1

Monitor 2 - Dell P990 (removable):
Settings: 1280x1024, 32-bit color, 85 Hz refresh rate
Coordinates: 1600,0 - 2880,1024. Workspace: 1600,0 - 2880,994
Video card: Dell 8200
Device: \\.\DISPLAY2\Monitor2

And here are the settings after a restart->

2 monitors, 1 disabled
Current desktop: 1600x1200 (0,0 - 1600,1200)

Monitor 1 - Plug and Play Monitor (primary):
Settings: 1600x1200, 32-bit color, 60 Hz refresh rate
Coordinates: 0,0 - 1600,1200. Workspace: 0,0 - 1600,1136
Video card: Dell 8200
Device: \\.\DISPLAY1\Monitor1

Monitor 2 - Dell P990 (disabled, removable):
Settings: 1280x1024, 32-bit color, 85 Hz refresh rate
Coordinates: 1600,0 - 2880,1024
Video card: Dell 8200
Device: \\.\DISPLAY2\Monitor2

Any help /adice appreciated

Most likely the video card is using clone mode instead of extended desktop mode.

To switch back to extended desktop mode, select Display Settings from the UltraMon menu and enable the second monitor.

If this doesn't fix the problem, open advanced settings for the primary monitor and change the multi-monitor mode on the tab for your video card.

For example for Nvidia cards, the setting is under nView Display Mode.

Your first suggestion fixes it for the current session but as soon as i reboot the problem re-occurs. I cannot find the setting for your second suggestion. Why should this start happening after i installed SP2, it was working fine before hand?

Many thanks

As a workaround, you could create a display profile which enables both monitors and gets applied automatically after logging in.

To do this, create a new display profile via UltraMon menu > Display Profiles, enable both monitors, and on the last page of the wizard, check the 'apply this display profile when logging in' box.

I don't know why the video card would always be in clone mode after rebooting. I haven't noticed any video card issues after applying XP SP2 on my own systems (both desktops and laptops).

Many thanks, but i use a different 2nd monitor at home and work. Maybe i will try a good-old re-install.

Thanks again

It would also be possible to just enable the secondary monitor using a batch file, this would then work fine in both situations.

Let me know if you are interested in this.
