Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Mirroring like in ati driver

I love this program, but one thing I found lacking was mirroring, it may just be my ignorance, but hear me out:
The only dual feature I got working perfectly with just the ati driver, was mirroring. It shows exactly the same image on both, no delays at all, and the same good quality on both monitors(except a tearing on whatever monitor is secondary, when there's flashing on screen, i.e lightning)
With ultramon I lose hardware overlay/acceleration(?), since the movie looks like crap on both screens, and is actually lagging. There's also a delay when going to fullscreen video. I understand it would be this way when using an extended desktop, but when the ati driver can do this kind of mirroring, why can't ultramon?

I would be most happy if you could include this feature(for ati/other cards that support it), so I can use only Ultramon for all my dual display needs. :)

I'm going to look at mirroring performance again for UltraMon 3, but it seems unlikely that UltraMon will be able to match the performance of the video card's clone mode.

The advantage of UltraMon mirroring is that you can mirror across video cards, and use different resolutions. But if clone mode fits your needs, I would always recommend using that instead of UltraMon mirroring.

Regarding video overlays: you'll need to uncheck 'disable video overlays and 3D acceleration' under mirroring options.

I'm going to alternate between "dual mode" in ultramon and clone mode with ati driver. The only backside is that I have to switch over to single display in Ultramon before I can use the ati hotkey to change into clone mode.
And the most annoying part is; If I change back to ultramon dual after having used clone mode, Then directx accelerations is disabled for my primary monitor, until I restart my pc.
Is there any way around this?

I also have a suggestion, but I reckon it's unlikely/probably too much to ask for, so don't take it too serious. Have you ever thought about cooperating with ATI and making an ultimate solution?, that could be included in the ati drivers. Since a combination of ultramon and ati clone mode, would make the perfect dual monitor program (for ati users at least;), I'll bet ATI users all over the world would welcome it. Just my two cents..

That's most likely a video driver issue, make sure you have the latest video card drivers.

I've seen this myself occasionally, most recently on Windows 2000 with an Nvidia card, after disabling/enabling the secondary monitor, DirectX acceleration is disabled. This isn't related to UltraMon though.

Activating clone mode via UltraMon is planned for version 3, but I don't know yet if it is actually possible. UltraMon mirroring could then use the video card's clone mode if possible, or use software mirroring.
