I tested some OpenGL ICDs for multimon compatibility, here are my results:

Nvidia TNT/TNT2, Detonator 3.78 driver: compatible
3Dlabs Permedia 2, driver from Win2000 CD: not compatible

See http://www.realtimesoft.com/multimon/ogl/ for more information.

Please post your own experiences, I'll compile all posts into a list for the FAQ.

Well here's a bit of weirdness concerning the Permedia2 under 2000.

My setup...
Primary - Oxygen VX1
Secondary - AccelSTAR II (VGA Disabled)

Monitor Setup

a) Primary|Secondary - No OGL on Primary

b) Primary
---------
Secondary - No OGL Primary

c) Secondary|Primary - OGL supported on Primary

d) Secondary
---------
Primary - OGL supported on Primary

If I muster the strength to dig up my other Permedia2 boards I'll post some 3/4 monitor config results.

Cheers.

So the VX1 has a multimon-compatible OpenGL ICD, but it doesn't like the Permedia 2 too much...

Go figure.

BTW, what happens if you set the Permedia 2 as primary?

Here's some interesting information, thanks to Billy Baker:

'I wanted to let you know that I have a PCI TNT2 as my primary with the 3.78 drivers and either an AGP VX1 or a PCI GVX1 as the second using the 2.15-0280 drivers from 3DLabs. This works great. I have had some other combinations but to get two screens with windowed OpenGL hardware acceleration the TNT2 had to be the primary and the 3DLabs card had to be the secondary'.

So you can have windowed OpenGL on all monitors using different video cards!

I've been playing around a bit more with the VX1-Permedia and it "seems" that 3D (DirectX) is working across both displays but OGL is obviously not going to work as the P2 lacks OGL support.

Cheers.

I am running a dual-monitor system with an asus tnt agp as primary and a matrox millenium as secondary card. everything works fine exept, that the open gl performance of my tnt card droped by about 30%. i tried every driver i could get hands on from nvidia, but the problem is always the same. Any idea, what could solve this problem ?

This just in: AGP and PCI TNT2's, Detonator 3.78 driver on Win2000: OpenGL acceleration only on the primary monitor.

I experienced some problems with a elsa geforce256 and a diamond viper v330. If both cards are enabled, there is no opengl acceleration on the primary (geforce). if the viper is set to primary, I get acceleration but with the speed of the viper (on both displays). Is the viper disabled the geforce works fine.
Does anyone know a solution to this? Problem might be, that you can't "vga disable" the viper. (see below)
Has anyone got a geforce with a tnt, tnt2, tnt2 m64 or similar running with unharmed opengl acceleration on both displays?

Second I tried a matrox millenium (vga disabled) instead of the viper. There is opengl support on the primary (well, I had to disable the secondary adapter, start 3dsmax and enable the secondary again - but afterwards, no problems at all - untouched opengl performance of the geforce)
