Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Odd Buttons appear on screens

I very recently downloaded the Ultramon program to test it on my system with 2 monitors. It is a nice app but I am now running into a problem. When I first install the app it runs really well, but as soon as I reboot my PC I randomly get odd things appearing on the screens. Usually, I get 2 or 3 boxes on the Taskbar. Usually one has an arrow icon from my MS Mouse (wireless) and the other the icon from my MS Keyboard (also wireless)! Neither of the boxes has any text and I cannot close them. I just rebooted for a 3rd time and now the boxes on the Taskbar are gone but I have a new bar across the middle of the screen. The bar looks like the bar at the top of a running app but has no text nor any min/max/close buttons... it just sits there!

Any experience with this issue?

I am running WinXP Pro SP1; monitors are Samsung SyncMaster 955DF & IBM G74; Video card is Abit Siluro GF4 Ti4200-8X 128MB.

A follow-up to my last posting... I rebooted again and this time the bar was gone (which by the way was on monitor 1) and now on monitor 2 I had a white square box (about 2 1/2") right in the middle of the screen!! This box also has no text or way to get rid of it. It covers a number of icons on the screen and when I open an app it sits right in the middle of it!

So I tried rebooting again... this time I get the same white box and the 2 boxes on the Taskbar (with the mouse & keyboard icons and both a the bottom of monitor 2) and now a new blue bar (i.e. the type that appears at the top of a running app) which again has no text... but this one has the Ultramon button allowing me to move it from screen to screen. However there still is no way to close it!

I also brought up Windows Task Manager and there are no apps running!

This is quite annoying.. any idea how this gets resolved?

I'm back again with yet another update!! I once again rebooted and this is what I now have:

Monitor 1 The blue bar is back;

Monitor 2 I now have 4 boxes on the Taskbar (mouse & keyboard, plus one with a monitor icon and another with the icon from Windows Messenger {which I never open or use}). The mouse, monitor & keyboard boxes on the taskbar when I click on them each open small bars on the screen (each bar has only one option and that is to switch it between screens - and it works). With my mouse I can manually move them around but I still cannot close any of them.

When I click on the Windows Messenger box on the taskbar a large app-type box opens on the screen (9 1/2" x 7")but it is only the oultine of an app... i.e. it has the blue bar at the top and borders all around but in the center I can see the screen background. The bar also has an icon to allow it to be switched between monitors but it doesn't work and I cannot move this box around manually with the mouse.

That's it this time... I am reluctant to reboot again! I think I will uninstall the program until I hear back from this forum...

That's an issue with the Nvidia Desktop Manager, version 5x.xx.

As a workaround, you could either disable the Nvidia Desktop Manager, or make sure UltraMon gets started after the Nvidia Desktop Manager.

See this thread for more information and details on the workarounds.

It seems I should have read more of the other messages in the forum...

I found this reference in another threadthis thread... the UltraMonDelay script seems to do the trick... I had to change the delay to 3 seconds but all the odd boxes are gone.
