Just found an interesting post in Microsoft's multimon news group, mentioning the possibility of multimon support with new Dell Win2000 drivers.
The new driver is available here, in the release notes (under previous fixed issues), it says something about enabling the extended desktop...

Yeah, I made that posting. I have since talked to Gateway Research, and they tell me they have a much newer version of the ATI reference driver that Dell base their driver on ready for release in the next couple of days, so once I get that driver and my copy of Win2K, I'll report back my success or not. Failing this, I am attempting to get dual monitor support happening using the PCI slot in my notebook's docking station. Gateway research tell me this does work.
