Hi Christian,
what happened to Ultramon's ability to mirror (and zoom) a specific window? I've been looking for this option in the current version, but can only find full screen mirror (which refuses to work on my current setup by the way). Was version 1 able to do this, or did I dream it? Thanks........

The old version of mirroring could do this, but the new version introduced in 2.0 Beta 6 only supports fullscreen mirroring of one or more monitors.

When you try to start mirroring, do you get the message that UltraMon failed to set up one or more monitors for mirroring? This issue has been fixed in Beta 7.

A new feature in Beta 7 is support for mirroring a monitor in a window instead of fullscreen.

I suggest you give Beta 7 a try, mirroring performance is much better than with the old version of mirroring. If you prefer to use the old version, please send me a mail.

Hi Christian,
the message was along the lines of "Unable to start mirroring, you may need to reboot". I tried to start it up again to check the message, but this time it worked - first time ever! Typical PC, only works when you don't want it to :)

Can't wait to try beta 7 - when will it be available for download? Thanks again.......

Hi Geoff,

Beta 7 should be available tomorrow evening. I'm doing final testing/bug fixing.

Hi Christian,
Is there a reason that you removed the ability to mirror a single window? I have actually been looking for this feature. I would like to be able to select a single window and tell UltraMon to mirror just that window. Is that possible?

Also you mentioned the ability to mirror a monitor in a window rather than fullscreen. How do you turn on that option? Thanks.

Hi Ilya,

one reason was a simpler user interface. In addition, the main reason for the ability to mirror a window was to improve performance. But the new version of mirroring only updates the screen when necessary, so in most situations it won't matter whether the whole monitor or only a small area is mirrored.

It might be possible to add this feature again, please let me know why you would prefer to mirror only a single window.

Mirroring a monitor in a window can be done via command-line arguments to UMMirrorClient.exe. See UltraMon Help > Scripting > Command-line arguments for details. The next release will have a user interface for this feature.

Yeah, I see that the new mirroring application is significantly faster than your v1 copy. The reason I would like to be able to mirror a single window is actually for a conference room scenario. I want to be able to put a particular window up on the projector (in the extended desktop space) which is a mirror of the one I have on my primary desktop space (laptop LCD).

This way I can have other applications open on my primary desktop space (Word, Email, Web Browser, etc), without those things also being shown on the projector space. However, at the same time I am able to control the window up on the projector screen without having to explicitly look up at the projector screen.

If there are no implementation problems, I'll add this feature to a future release (after 2.0 final).

Most likely you would have some user interface to pick the window that should be mirrored, and the mirror target monitor will display the window centered above a background.

Do you think the following options would be useful:

- mirror whole window (title bar and everything) or client area only

- choose background color or bitmap

The features you listed sounded useful.

Few questions, but don't know if it's possible.

Would it be possible to mirror a window such that even if another window is on top of it, it still renders correctly (without the extra window that is on top).

Another thing would be to have the mirrored copy "ignore" any resizing of the original window. So you tell the mirrored copy what size you want it to be (e.g. full screen) and it doesn't matter what size the original window is. The mirrored copy does the necessary scaling.

Another interesting feature would be that when you close the original window, the mirrored window closes. Rather than arbitrarily mirroring some other part of the desktop.

It would be nice to be able to start the mirroring from the context menu of any window. Currently you can "Move to other monitor" or "Maximize to desktop" by right-clicking any window and choosing the respective option. It would be nice to have the mirroring be part of that context menu.

When will 2.0 final be released? Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Mirroring correctly with a window on top could only be done on Windows XP, and would most likely reduce performance. Rendering the full window independent of size most likely won't be possible.

The other suggestions are no problem.

2.0 final will be released later this year, most likely in September or October.
