i installed ultramon and it made my second monitor turn gray. It won't display anything, but I can make it black by making it my primary monitor, I did this after uninstalling ultramon. The problem persists...please help. Even when i turn it on the screen is just gray, although sometimes it turns blue when the other turns blue during startup.

I have an AGP GeForce3 and a PCI GeForce2 MX 400. The MX 400 is set as the primary in the BIOS.

I have AMD 1.4mhz athlon, 286mb DDR

Once you have logged in the secondary display remains disabled?

yes...it has been disabled since i installed ultramon

Is it possible that my BIOS settings got changed somehow? because i think that would explain this...and then i could remove the disabled card, set my working card to primary, put the card back in and set it back to primary...

Try changing the display resolution and refresh rate in Display Properties. Make sure you choose a low refresh rate that's guaranteed to work, for example 60 or 70 Hz.

If that doesn't fix the problem: try the procedure described in this thread to remove all traces of the UltraMon mirror driver.

Regarding BIOS settings: UltraMon doesn't use or change any BIOS settings.

I already tried changing the resolution/refresh rate, btw its a LCD. I found the registry key, but i don't see any security/permision menu and when i tried just deleting the key it didn't work.

thanks for you quick response by the way.

Make sure you are using regedt32.exe, not regedit.exe. regedit.exe doesn't allow you to change registry key permissions.

I did it and i restarted, but the problem remained...so i deleted some more keys that looked the same, but were in different places (mb not such a good idea...)...still doesn't work...shoot me in the face.

Don't know what else would cause this, looks like you have removed all traces of UltraMon and the mirror driver. The mirror driver is the only component of UltraMon with the potential to have a major impact on the system. UltraMon doesn't change display drivers, driver settings or other system-wide settings.

Does Computer Management > System Tools > System Information > Components > Problem Devices still show an entry for 'UltraMon Display Mirror Driver'?

Regarding the registry entries: that's standard for all driver installations, Windows creates entries in several locations when installing a driver.

Please check if you installed new display drivers or other applications while evaluating UltraMon.

BTW, if you enable the second display from Display Properties, does anything happen at all? Any error messages, for example in Device Manager?

One thing you could try: remove both display adapters in Device Manager, then reboot. Windows will then reinstall the display drivers. May be worth a try.

so...it turns out the screen is dead. It turned gray cause its broken. I'm not sure if its a coincedence or what, but it broke right when the installer finished. I have a warranty though, so its not a big deal.

Sorry to hear this. During mirror driver installation the displays get re-initialized (similar to changing display modes), maybe that caused the failure; shouldn't cause any problem with a healthy display though.
