I plugged a second monitor in to my computer and it worked perfectly. I then went into the the display properties to change the resolution and after hitting save, the second monitor lost the signal. I went back into display settings and now get only one monitor instead of the 1 and 2 I had originally. I unplugged the second monitor and rebooted and same thing. What is interesting is that when I plug the second monitor in, the display settings shows that monitor on the page under Display:. When I unplug the second monitor the display text changes back to the first monitor. I have turned something off or done something and cannot get the dual view back in display settings.
