I was wondering if anyone knows why this screensaver works fine with windows screensaver manager but with ultramon all I get is a black screen.

Was unclear, I meant windows built in screensaver manager.

Do you have it assigned to a secondary monitor when this happens?
If yes, the screen saver most likely doesn't have a live preview mode, which is required in order for UltraMon to run the screen saver on a secondary monitor.

The screensaver was set for one monitor because it had dualmonitor support built in.

If you want to use the screen saver's native multi-monitor support, assign it to the primary monitor and don't check the 'preview mode' option, and don't assign any screen savers to the secondary monitor(s).
