When I try to add a toolbar (i.e. Copernic Desktop Search) to the smart taskbar it takes over the entire taskbar. Is this expected behavior or a bug?

Depends on the toolbar, but you can always resize the toolbar manually (the taskbar needs to be unlocked to do this).
