Explorer goes down more times than a cheap whore when I run UltraMon B5 in WindowsXP -- As soon as I stop running UltraMon -- explorer stops crashing. Perhaps B6 could adress this issue?

I love the UltraMon extended taskbar...I miss it.

Which build of XP? Ive tried B5 in both RC1 and the final code, no such problems.

I'm using the Corporate Edition provided to us by MS. I've eliminated other programs as possible conflictors. Even when I close down everything non-essential but UltraMon, it crashes Explorer.

Do you have the same problems if you turn off the Smart Taskbar?

The following applications are known to cause problems with UltraMon on XP:
- TweakXP
- WindowBlinds XP

Hmm, odd, i too am using the corporate edition, and tested briefly on RC1 as well with no noticeable side effects during full on use. As christian has suggested, are you using any tweaking/skinning programs ?

Perhaps you should back up your installation somehow (ghost, etc) and try a reinstallation, as i know a few people besides myself who run ultramon B5 on the same codebase with no problems.

I too am having the crashing problem. I just got UltraMon today, and I love it's functionality, but I don't like the crashing. It's WinXP corporate, and UltraMon B5. :-/

I've also had the problem with explorer crashing under WinXP with Ultramon beta 5.

I've reinstalled WinXP Pro (fresh install onto a blank hard drive) several times, and everytime I get the problem with explorer crashing after installing Windows XP. I have the smart taskbar turned off, along with most of the XPish type interface features. (looks like standard win2k windows).

As a work around for explorer crashing, I use MCL which gives a command line type window on my 2nd screen, which allows me to restart explorer when it crashes without too much fuss. (it's freeware)

I've also had problems with the ultramon task bar eating up 100% of the systems resources, and end up having to kill it to get my system back to a usable state. I've had to disable the ultramon taskbar feature.

The CPU hogging problem will be addressed in Beta 6, don't know about the Explorer issue, haven't seen this so far on my two XP systems.

I suggest you try again with Beta 6, which will have a major revision of the Smart Taskbar. Beta 6 should be out later next month or early January.

The corporate edition you are using is the "devils own" release? Thats probably your problem if others on XP aren't having the same issue. I was also having probs with this release of xp locking my files preventing me from deleting saying they were in use.

Getting the retail release should remedy your prob with ultramon

forgot to mention that my explorer crashing every 20 seconds was really ticking me off as well until I finally found out it was ultramon having the problem.. I loved the hotkey send window to other display :(

I use XP Professional and I experience the same problems as beforementioned. Turning off the smart taskbar eliminates the problem. I do not use WindowBlinds XP or TweakXP.

Christian, if you like, I can provide you with a debug report.

Did Explorer crash in RTSUltraMonHook.dll or UltraMon.dll? If yes, please send me the debug report. If the error occurred in another module, it won't help with troubleshooting.

I recently downloaded WixXP Pro Devilsown Copy, I tried to install it but I'm getting an error message when it trys to install, can anyone help me out...

I bought the home version, and no problems installing>>>>

I installed the devils own release on one computer that was reformatted , installed with win98 then clean installed with xp pro and it worked fine but on another computer I keep getting the message "setup has determined that drive c is corrupt........." . Even after a reformat the same thing. One thing is for sure , make sure that all the files are not corrupt when installing. Download it again if possible because for some reason, xp is much more delicate when installing than 98 or ME and it messes up sometimes while installing. The worst part about the corrupt drive error is that I have to change the boot record because it keeps trying to continue the installation on startup.

This is for SMoOTH 2002-03-02 23:36

The error message you are getting can be worked around by this method:

Take out the hard drive and put it in the tower (case) that XP installed fine in. Install XP and put the hard drive back in it's original case.

The reason for this is probably because the BIOS needs to be updated. This method worked fine for me. I know what you're thinking. Why not just dl the updated drivers for the Bios? I couldn't get online and didn't want to wait.

I have been running XP (Devil's Own) for over 4 months now and have had no problems with the method I used to install it.

I have Explorer crashing as well, however I am using Windows 2000.

I have another person working with me that has the same issues with Explorer crashing when UltraMon, however, his operating system is Windows 98.

Are there any fixes or work arounds that anyone knows of?

Do you have Beta 6 installed? Any Stardock products? Does explorer.exe crash randomly or is there a pattern?
