After creating the screenshot, I think I understand why. Monitor 1 is 1680x1050, Monitor 2 is 1280x1024.
I think the gap at the top is the difference between 1024 and 1050. Is this a windows issue or Ultramon?

This is probably an issue with another application, for example an application which changes the desktop workspace area.
UltraMon doesn't get involved with maximizing windows, and usually maximizing works fine on systems with monitors with different resolutions.
