Hello,

Well Jaton steered me astray folks. All I needed the second monitor for is a chat room so I first bought a cheapo Video-53 because the chipset is listed in the MS Help section as compatible. Well it didn't work and an e-mail to Jaton's tech garnered a reply that the card could not be used in a dual card application but they made note that the 58, 61 or 67 could be used. So I purchased a Video-67Pro and guess what, yup, it didn't work as a secondary card. I contacted Jaton again and they confirmed that the 67Pro was not compatible but the 67P is. Notice that they didn't state a "P" in their initial reply. What really kills me is that I visited their site prior to purchasing the 2nd card and the only 67 they had listed was the "67Pro" so I was left believing that that was the only choice......... silly me, huh! Pretty neat that they now refuse to answer my very polite querys to their customer service department (and I do seriously mean polite). Figured I would add this to air my now poor view of Jaton.

Ok, now that I have cried on your shoulder here is my concern.

I now have my original Matrox Millenium w/4megs and the Video67Pro w/4megs "better of the two Jaton's". I was thinking that I might for now (new puter soon) just use the Video-67Pro as the primary and the Millenium as the secondary since I have seen the Millenium is capable of taking on that role. The problem comes at this point. When I set them up in this configuration all I get upon booting is a series of 3 beeps and both monitors remain black/powered down. If I attempt to reverse the cards (which we know wont work) the Matrox and primary monitor will work fine but the Jaton remains dormant as expected. Is there a reason why the Millenium can not be used as a secondary to the Video-67Pro? Any and all input would be greatly appreciated prior to my purchase of a third card :(

Thanks,

Ej

Maybe the BIOS has a problem if VGA is enabled on the Millennium? Try disabling it using the jumper on the board.

BTW, is the Jaton an AGP card?

Thanks for the reply Christian,

I just finished disabling the VGA DIP switch. The three beeps on boot and no video still occurs. I might add that just for the heck of it I attempted to place the Matrox in the primary role with and without the Jaton installed. The result is the annoying three beeps and no video. Seems the Matrox can not be used in the VGA disabled mode at all.

Both the Jaton and Matrox are PCI cards. I am guessing that your feeling is that this should, in theory, be an operable combination (Jaton-primary/ Matrox-secondary)? I'm getting frustrated enough to begin thinking Appian but would prefer the flexability of a milti-card setup.

Is there a possibility I could be out of IRQ's?

Appreciative,

Ej

Strange problem... try looking up the BIOS beep code you get, maybe this will shed some light on the cause of the problem.

Thats really odd, because I use a Jaton Video 57P (Trident 9680 Chipset)as a secondary on my system and they didnt even mention that one. The funny thing was I was expecting it to act as the primary and my Voodoo Banshee go to the secondary but that wasnt the case, much to my happiness...

Even funnier was it was just lying around, a happended upon a free monitor so i popped it in for the heck of it and now im hooked...Photoshop is SO much nicer on two displays...

Pete!!! Rub it in why don't ya!!! hehe

Here is the next step of my saga.......

I have tracked down the "cause" and "correction" info as to my beep code "3-1".
*Cause - No monitor attached to the built-in VGA connector.
*Correction - Attach a monitor to the built-in video connector on the I/O panel.

Please correct me if I am wrong. Is I/O panel a fancy way of saying the VGA output connector of the video PCI card? I do have monitors attached to both cards.

The Jaton Video-67Pro is PNP and jumperless. Any and all suggestions are greatfully accepted.

Thanks,

Ej
