Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Dektop size changes when screensaver runs full screen

Christian,

I would like to be able to run some visualization software on the primary monitor whilst running other software on the secondary monitor.

Unfortunately the visualization software runs best on my machine in 320x240 (16-bit colour) mode. The problem I am having is that when it runs it must tell windows that the size of the desktop has changed, so everything shifts and all sorts of things end up on the wrong monitor!

Will it be (or is it now) possible to get UltraMon to 'lie' to Windows and hide the fact that the visualization software has changed the desktop size ?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Nigel.

This should be possible with an UltraMon shortcut that changes the display resolution and then launches the screen saver.

I guess the screen saver uses DirectX to change the display resolution, which would cause windows to move. This won't happen with UltraMon.

To create the shortcut, choose Shortcuts > Edit from the UltraMon menu. Select the screen saver you want to run, then add the /s command-line option, which causes it to run in screensaving mode. Here's an example using the Beziers screen saver:

F:\WINNT\System32\ssbezier.scr /s

Next, select the desired display mode for the primary monitor and check 'Restore original display settings'. After you have saved the shortcut, you can launch the screen saver from the UltraMon Shortcuts menu.

Thanks Christian, I'll give it a go.

Is there a way of stopping the screensaver grabbing the keyboard and mouse, and switching off the mouse pointer ?
