I have a Dell 2405FPW TFT and a Sagem HD45 DLP rear projection TV as my two devices connected to a 7800GTX. Everything works great until I try and change the Sagem to be my primary monitor so I can play games. This is UltraMon 2.6.26.0 and it gives the following in the About box:

2 monitors
Current desktop: 3200x1200 (0,0 - 3200,1200)

Monitor 1 - Dell 2405FPW (Digital) (primary):
Settings: 1920x1200, 32-bit color, 60 Hz refresh rate
Coordinates: 0,0 - 1920,1200. Workspace: 0,0 - 1920,1200
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX
Device: \\.\DISPLAY1\Monitor1

Monitor 2 - Plug and Play Monitor:
Settings: 1280x720, 32-bit color, 50 Hz refresh rate
Coordinates: 1920,0 - 3200,720. Workspace: 1920,26 - 3200,720
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX
Device: \\.\DISPLAY2\Monitor0

I get a constantly flickering part of the screen that looks to me like the Start Menu is being clicked and unclicked many times a second. The real Start Menu doesn't work and when I look in the Task Manager EXPLORER.EXE [the one loaded at user login rather than a 2nd one I have open to a folder] is using about 40% of my CPU continuously. If I kill it the flickering stops but then I have to kill all other instances of EXPLORER.EXE and re-run it again to get back my Start Menu and System Tray.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.

Seems unlikely that this would be caused by UltraMon, my guess would be that it's either an issue with a plugin loaded in explorer.exe (toolbar, etc) or maybe a video card utility.

To check if the issue is related to UltraMon, close UltraMon, then change the primary monitor via Windows Display Properties.

Okay I tried your suggestion. Using the Nvidia control panel I switched my primary display and it worked with no error. It's not the end of the world for me to do it this way though. It does confuse UltraMon slightly as it gets mixed up with which is the first and second monitors. I just have to remember they have been switched if I do it via the Nvidia control panel.

Did you try changing the primary monitor via Windows Display Properties?

This shouldn't switch the monitor numbers.

Yes in the nView properties after changing my primary monitor, UltraMon still said my 'monitor 1' was the primary even though I had switched it. This is the same if I leave UltraMon loaded while switching. As the Nvidia primary monitor change seems to work without hitch I'm happy to use that instead.
