I've noticed that the smart task bar doesn't work quite right in windows XP Pro x64. It works great for 64 bit windows, but when you are using 32 bit software it doesn't always catch it. Some things like bittorrent will only show up sometimes. Usually if you minimize it and then bring it back up.

Other problems like IE 32bit never seem to show up on the smart taskbar. Although IE 64bit haipply moves to the smart taskbar when it's suppost to.

I imagine you already knew this, but I didn't see any comments about this.

Does 32-bit IE have the additional window buttons added by UltraMon?

I can't reproduce this issue on XP x64, all the 32-bit applications I tested worked fine with the Smart Taskbar, UltraMon correctly tracked application movement.

I tested with 32-bit IE, Word 2003 and Windows Media Player.

I took a look and no the extra buttons were not being adding to the 32-bit apps. At least not the ones that weren't working with the taskbar.

I played it it a bit and I foudn that if I switch from the default of "at the bottom" for "Position of the custom menu commands" to "at the top" it would all work properly.

The weird thing is I can now pick "at the bottom" and it also works. But if I reset when it's set to "at the bottom" it does not work until I switch it around again.

Even weirder is I dont' know what that option is for. I assume it's talking about where it places the two buttons, but no matter what I pick those buttons are always in the same spot.

The option controls placement of the commands added to an application's window menu, to access this menu right-click the window's title bar.

Looks like the support for 32-bit applications doesn't get initialized properly during initial startup. When you change this option, UltraMon gets restarted, which seems to fix the problem.

One thing you could try is to delay UltraMon startup, maybe it's a compatibility issue with some other application.

To do this, run regedit.exe, select the key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime Soft\UltraMon', double-click on the AutoStartDelay value, select Decimal, then enter the number of seconds by which automatic startup should be delayed. I would try a value of 10-20 seconds.

I've played with it some more and it's still an issue. I get the problem most often when moving download windows from one screen to anther. If I move one of those windows from one screen to the other it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. It's quite odd. Sometimes it starts doing it again even after it's been working fine before (and I haven't reset).

It works pretty well though. If I can figure out hwo to reproduce the problem reliably I'll let you know.

Is RTSHookInterop.exe something to do with ultramon? It's a 32 bit task which I commonly close. I don't know what it is but I just noticed that closing it makes ultramon stop working with 32bit tasks, although it works fine with 64bit tasks.

I know it wasn't part of the 32bit ultramon, but maybe it's something you had to add into the 64bit version. It's rare that I let a processes run that I don't recognize. :)

RTSHookInterop.exe is used to provide support for 32-bit applications on 64-bit Windows.

Without it running, you'll have the following problems with 32-bit applications:

- no UltraMon window buttons and menu commands
- can't move maximized windows with the mouse
- Smart Taskbar doesn't track application movement

RTSHookInterop stands for Realtime Soft Hook Interoperability.

Ah ok, I'll just leave it running then. I only closed it cause I didn't know what it was, and it sort of sticks out since it's a 32bit task. I didn't think it would be part of ultramon 64bit edition.

Sorry to have wasted your time.
