I'm trying to work out if it's possible to switch off mirror mode via a profile or even better when i run up an appliction ?

What I want to be able to do is power up the PC in mirror mode so that I can log on from my secondary monitor which is the TV in another room (also log on on main monitor which would do most of the time). Once logged on I want to run Media Centre 2005 on the TV, but now I want to switch to extended desktop mode so that I can use the TV for MCE and the main monitor for normal PC work.

I was hoping that I could one click some programmed key to switch into extended desktop mode from mirror mode and run up MCE at the same time. However, I can't see an easy one click option to make this happen.

The main reason for one click is to get it past the WAF (wife acceptance factor), as soon as I have to teach her more than one click I'm onto a loser !

Thanks

This won't work with UltraMon mirroring, the problem is that mirroring will only get started after you have logged in.

To mirror the login screen you would need to use the video card's clone mode.

To start/stop UltraMon mirroring, run UMMirrorClient.exe (in your UltraMon installation folder) with the /start or /stop command-line argument.

Thanks.

That almost seems to do the trick, I set up the ATI to kick off in mirror mode and now I see the XP login immediately.

Only issue is how I can get the ATI Catalyst driver to always start up in clone mode, it just kicks off where it last left off when coming out of standby.

If I change to extended desktop with UltraMon that takes me out of clone mode. Interestingly when I start up Media Centre with properties set to send it to the other display Ultramon kicks into to extended desktop mode autoamtically thus overiding the clone mode. So in essence this does what I wanted anyhow.

Only concern is that when I then go into standby I can't get the system back into clone mode automatically ready for teh next time I start up.

P.S. I also now find my remote doesn't actually start working until I've logged in too .. another issue to solve !
