I just sent an e-mail asking a question about multiple monitors before I heard about UltraMon, so I'll ask the questions here.

Will UltraMon help with an ASUS 7100 with twinview? My 2 current complaints are:

1. I can't set the monitors to different refresh rates; and

2. When I use Flight Simulator 2000, and I undock a view window and move it to the second monitor the display on that window freezes. If I move the window back, it starts working again. I also have an addon program that runs with FS2000 called "FSNavigator" installed and when I move it's window to the second monitor, it works fine, updating as I fly. Other programs also allow me to move windows to the second monitor and they work as expected.

Any chance that UltraMon will help with either of these problems?

Thanks

Eliot

Hi Eliot,

UltraMon won't help with these problems, and if you use Win2000, several UltraMon features won't work with TwinView cards due to their drivers not having full Win2000 multimon support.

The problem with Flight Simulator sounds like a driver issue, looks like Direct3D doesn't work on the secondary monitor... if you haven't done so already, try installing the latest Nvidia reference drivers.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response. I should have told you I'm running Win ME. I'm pretty sure I have the latest drivers from NVidia. I did have to turn down the refresh rate to get my older Legend II monitor to work. Does this info add anything?

How do i figure out if Direct 3D works on the second monitor?

I appreciate the help.

You can use dxdiag.exe to check if Direct3D acceleration is available on the second monitor. Can't help you much with the other problems, maybe someone who has a TwinView card will be able to help.

Hy Eliot,

> 1. I can't set the monitors to different refresh rates;

I have a Leadtek Winfast Geforce 2MX Dualhead Pro card and a 17" and 19" Monitor.
I have no problems to change the refresh rates separately under Win 98: The 17" Monitor is running with 75 hz, the 19" with 85 hz.
I think this might be an driver issue. I have the Nvidia-drivers 6.50 installed.

Hi guys

Well, I think that nVidia doesn't want to release a driver with full functions of the TwinView in Win2k! I don't know why but I've seen here guys are having problems on the refresh rates, resolutions... I do have much stranger problem. Horisontal Span mode: When I maximize a window, its right corner (where the [x] is locating) goes to the end of the second monitor!
there's no problem in Win98. Everything is just fine!
The last chance is to find some soft for win2k to fix driver and solve this god damn problem!
Or every minute send a thousands of emails to nVidia. Maybe then they will do fix.

Well, I'm confused. I read the following at a site called www.turbotech.ch

"Microsoft Flight Simulator 98/2000 is an example for a game that supports multiple monitors. You can open other windows within the game, undock them and drag them to the secondary display. You can have, for instance, a cockpit view on the primary display and an instrument panel on the secondary, or a map view. The catch is that if the undocked window requires acceleration, it will not work on the secondary display. When
you drag this window to the secondary display, it will show nothing. This happens as long as the primary display is running accelerated. If you put the game into window mode, disabling acceleration, then all windows will work. But performance will decrease significanly. The game will generally run so slow that it will not be worth it, unless for brief moments or if the secondary adapter is very fast in 2D. If the undocked window does not require acceleration, it will work fine on the secondary display, while the first remains accelerated. Performance decrease won’t be very high."

So why do I see all these examples on the net of people who are using multiple monitors for FS2000 with left and right out-the-window views? Aren't those accelerated displays? Is there anything I can do?
