I have a Radeon 9000 Pro card that has a DVI output on it. I would like to use the DVI output for a connection to my Hitachi HDTV. The problem is that the 9000 Pro will only enabled the DVI port if it detects a valid device at the other end. You can't just "turn it on" and have it start outputting. At the same time, my Hitachi defaults to Component and only switches to the DVI if it sees a valid signal.
So, I'm stuck in a Catch-22. The 9000 is waiting to see that a valid DVI device is at the other end before sending anything out -- and my TV at the other end is waiting for a DVI signal before using that port!
The ATI driver does have an override switch for the S-Video port only -- you can force it on if you want -- but not for the DVI port.
I am curious if there UltraMon might have the ability to force the DVI port on the 9000 card as enabled so that a signal will be put out regardless of what it thinks is at the other end. (And, therefore, my Hitachi would see the signal on the DVI port and activate it.)
Please let me know. Thanks!

UltraMon won't help with this, and I don't think this can be fixed by third-party software. Most likely ATI would need to add an override like the one you mentioned for TV-out.

I have a 9200SE and it has alternate dvi functionality, but what I would tell you to do is hook up your dvi as the primary and install some kind of plug and play setup for it, then if that starts to look good set the dvi as primary and just move your taskbar to a secondary monitor, that would insure that it starts up every time hopefully

Hi folks,
I have the same problem with an old Siemens TFT. My Radeon 9000 does not recognise it in WinXP. In Win Me it worked well.
If somebody knows how to force the ATI to send signals out of the DVI I would appreciate help very much!
