Hi.
I have been using Ultramon for sometime with no problems at all.
Yesterday, I turned on my machine and to my surprise the Ultramon Smart Taskbars did not appear.
I have tried everything I can think of the get them to reappear including disabling mirroring and changing priority to zero.
I have also tried.... Disabling and re enabling Smart Taskbar. Uninstalling and reinstalling Ultramon. Uninstalling 2.1 installing 2.0 and then upgrading to 2.1.
No go.
My setup is P4 - 2.4 Matrox G450 Dual Head Twin Sharp T15G1 Monitors Windows XP Pro
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Hi Mark,
might be a configuration issue or a conflict with some newly installed application.
To let UltraMon create a new default configuration for the Smart Taskbar, close UltraMon, open regedit.exe, then delete the registry key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime Soft\UltraMon\Smart Taskbar'.
If this doesn't fix the problem: try running a debug monitor like DBWIN32, then restart UltraMon. If the Smart Taskbar encounters a problem during startup, you'll get an error message in the debug monitor.

Hi Christian.
Did as you suggested. Removed Registry Key. Rebooted and restarted. No go.
Repeated with DBWin32. Nothing unusual there either.
I have this afternoon installed the latest G450 drivers to see if that made a difference but it does not.

Please check if UltraMonTaskbar.exe is running. You can do this with Task Manager, UltraMonTaskbar.exe should be listed on the Processes tab.
If it isn't running, try starting it manually. The executable is located in the UltraMon directory, usually C:\Program Files\UltraMon. Leave DBWIN32 running to check for error messages.

Thanx Christian.
No is wasn't running and when I called it manually it worked.
I never actually realised it was a seperate executable. That will teach me to look in the install folder first. ;-)
What is the best way to have it start with Ultramon when Windows start. Put in Startup Folder or is there some other way?
Cheers,

You could create a shortcut to UltraMonTaskbar.exe and place it in the Startup folder.
Most likely there is some problem with the installation data. I have uploaded a script which tries to get the location of various UltraMon components (will only work with UltraMon 2.1 on Windows 2000/XP): UmComponents.zip. Please run the script and post the results here, you can copy the message by pressing CTRL+C.

Looks fine, very strange problem... Smart Taskbar is enabled under Options > Smart Taskbar?

Yes, I have had that enabled all the time Christian.
Not to worry. Invoking it from the Startup folder works ok.
Anyway. Thanx for your help. It is a great program and I could not do without it.
Now if I could just get my Serene Screen screensaver to stretch across both screens. ;-)

EnumShell output is fine, not sure what causes the error you get, this is rather unusual.
Did you install a new application just before the taskbar stopped working? For example a shell enhancement tool or similar.
What happens if you restart the system, close UltraMon, then start it again (shortcut in Start Menu > Programs)?

hmm, i think i found the prob. my second monitor is out for repairs, so i'm running a single monitor now. I think the smart toolbar should always work, not depending on dualhead, it's to damn good!
