Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Remember Desktop Icons positions problem

I have a dual monitor system running off a Ti4600 (yes, all nview stuff diabled), and it works well with UltraMon, however it forgets the positions of my desktop icons from time to time, and clicking "Restore Positions" only makes the screen blink, but no icons move, almost as if it's re-saved them in their current state.

Because I remote desktop (XP) into my machine regularly, this feature is extremely useful to me, (when you connect, XP treats the connection like a virtual monitor, thus all of your icons are moved to the primary display. When you disconnect, both the actual monitors become available again.).

Another problem I have is that when remotely connected, the applications on a secondary display can only be made visible if they are maximised, which maximises them on the virtual display. It would be excellent if ultramon could be configured to detect when either the secondary display is removed, or when a remote connection is established, and move all open applications to the primary display.

Just a few thoughts. Thanks in advance.

UltraMon currently doesn't support per-configuration icon positions, this is most likely the cause of the problem. Support for this will be added in one of the next releases.

As a workaround, you could disable automatic icon positioning under Options > General (uncheck 'preserve position of desktop icons'). You can then manually save and restore icon positions from the UltraMon menu (Desktop Icons > Save/Restore Positions).

A feature for moving all windows to the primary monitor will be considered for a future release.

Thanks very much for the swift reply, and of course the workaround.

I look forward to the new release. When did you say it would be? ;)

The next release is planned for this month, but no date has been set yet for multi-config icon positioning support.
