Hi,

I am having trouble installing a second monitor to my Win2000 systems. My primary card is an AGP Viper 550 and I am trying to add a PCI Diamond Stealth III S540.

After installing the card, the plug and play system correctly finds the Stealth and installs the S3 driver. However, the Device Manager reports an error stating that the device could not be started. Any ideas?

Thanks in Advance

Hello Jeff,

cards with S3 chipsets won't work as secondary on Win2000... the workaround: set the S3 card as primary in the BIOS, the Viper as primary in Windows. See http://www.realtimesoft.com/multimon/faq.asp#S3Win2000 for details.

Hi!

I followed the link and read that this problem is now fixed. This is good as I bought an S540 card on the basis of reading the FAQ. BUT...

My card won't start. The Rage Fury AGP primary works fine.

I set the BIOS to PCI first and the S540 started but then the whole system hung, I didn't have time to investigate so I just put it all back to how it was.

So, guys, what's the final word? WIll S3 cards work or not??!!

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.
