I tried UltraMon 2.0 Beta 7 on WinXP and found some bugs ("features") in the Mirroring. I have a GeForce2MX400 with TV-Out (1024x768) and tried the Mirroring instead of the Clone Mode. I do this because it's easyer to be turned off so I can use TVTool which doesn't support TwinView (nView) yet for watching movies without the overscan. Now to the problem: 1. When I enable the mirroring then on my primary monitor the background of the text under the icons becomes visible (gray) instead of being transparent 2. On the secondary monitor (TV) the mouse has trails - leaves marks all over the place. 3. With mirroring turned on I can't have overlays even on the primary monitor :(
Can somebody explain or deny these "bugs"?

1) that seems to be a side effect of activating the mirror driver, there are also some applications that change the way they draw their user interface elements when mirroring is activated. As far as I can tell this is a feature/limitation of the operating system.
2) does it leave a trail all the time, or only occasionally? I've seen this happen from time to time, usually immediately after starting mirroring, but then it worked fine.
3) UltraMon needs to disable overlays in order to be able to mirror video windows. Another reason is that the mirror driver may crash if DirectDraw acceleration is enabled.
UltraMon mirroring is best suited for standard 2D applications. If you want to mirror video, you should use a hardware solution (dualhead card or VGA splitter).

1) :( Too bad. is there hope this to be fixed? 2) It doesn't leave a trail all the time but I find out when exactly. It seems very random. ........... now after some testing I can say that after some time the left over pointers become less but they keep on showing. I noticed s.th. else: if I use the mouse to control the mouse pointer there is no problem at all but when I use my remote control with Girder (www.girder.nl - the best windows automation program) then the left over pointers show up. Can I do s.th. else to help you find the problem?
3) My card is a DualHead and it supports overlays on both monitors at the same time. Is it possible to make an option not to turn off overlays?

Not disabling overlays would crash the system. And you wouldn't be able to mirror video, if overlays are enabled video windows would just be black on the mirror target monitor.
Regarding the mouse issue: is it possible to use Girder without a remote control device, for example with a script that moves the mouse around the screen automatically? If yes, I could test it. I have done some tests with an application that moves the mouse automatically, but didn't notice any problems.

3)why will it crash my sistem? Isn't it possible to do it like Clone Mode does it? In Clone Mode I can see the overlay on both monitor and TV on my GF2MX.
2)t is possible to move the mouse without the remote control. If you want I can send you a .gml file that will allow you to control the mouse with the keyboard (Ctrl + Arrows). All you have to do is download Girder enable the keyboard plugin and load the .gml file. Or even easier you can test a command with F5. can you tell me your e-mail?

There is no relation between clone mode and UltraMon mirroring, Windows doesn't offer a 'mirror display' feature that could be used by applications. That doesn't mean that it is impossible to mirror an overlay, but so far I haven't found a way to do it.
I don't know how the various video card manufacturers implement clone mode, but they only offer this feature for single-chipset dualhead cards, so most likely it is closely tied to the hardware. For example there is no clone mode feature on the Matrox G200 MMS, which uses one chipset per display.
Please send me the .gml file to support@realtimesoft.com.

OK now I understand :) I sent you an e-mail with example .gml file
what about the 1) problem (with transparency of icons text)? can you see it on your system?

I have now tested with Girder, and have seen the same problem occasionally. I'll look into this for the next release.
Regarding the icon text on the desktop: it's the same on my system, also something I'm going to take a closer look at for the next release.
