Hi,

I have installed 2.0 Beta 6 on W2000 sp2 workstation using admin account. This machine is in a AD domain. I cannot start ultramon using a normal user account, it states that Ultramon has expired. [Ultramon was inatalled yesterday] Yet, admin can start it fine. Seems like a permissions problem (checked c:\program files\ultramon and user has read & execute) or a permissions problem in the registry. [I have had other apps with this type of problem].

Could you share any info on proper registry settings for your registry areas?

Thanks in advance.

Okay. I was brain dead when I installed and selected only current user. This explains the previous question.
[I uninstalled and re-installed for all users].

New question: I want to be able to start ultramon on demand when I remotely control a workstation using PC Anywhere. I can use rcmdsvc to start ultramon and it starts but the app doesn't actually display any taskbar?
(Perhaps I need to start ultramon, ultramontaskbar, ultramondesktop [didn't work])
We are using Compaq Evo D500 p4 1.7 w 512 mb and Appian Hurricane Dual cards and Appian X quad cards with NEC LCD 1830 displays.

Does PC Anywhere give you access to secondary monitors? If it does, you should see an UltraMon taskbar on the secondary monitor, starting UltraMon.exe will also start UltraMonTaskbar.exe (if the Smart Taskbar is enabled).

It's also possible that PC Anywhere disables secondary monitors when you log on remotely (XP terminal services does this for example).

Also make sure you have drivers installed with true multi-monitor support. Otherwise UltraMon will only recognize a single monitor with the Hurricane card.

Choose About from the UltraMon menu to see what displays UltraMon has detected.

Thanks for the reply.

Ultramon in about sees both monitors. I am running appian release candidate drivers for both channels or monitors.

When I start ultramon.exe remotely using rcmdsvc it starts because I can see the task in task manager but it does not park in the systray or display a second taskbar.

It seems like some kind of permissions thing but I cannot get a handle on it.

I would be curious if anyone using W2000 sp2 can start it remotely using the remote command service?

Thanks again

Okay. We figured out how to start ultramon remotely. Look in the W2000 resource kit for cscript and use it to run exec.vbs

Those two will actually start graphical apps from another PC.

Later.

Thanks for the tip.

I have also tested with rcmd on a Win2000 server and had the same results as you.

My guess is that the process created with rcmd doesn't have access to the window station/desktop of the logged on user and thus can't create any windows.

Just a side note: Pc Anywhere by Symantec does not support multiple monitors. They say so in their knowledge base. It only provides the primary monitor and no others in a Multi monitor system.

The only one that comes close is Netop by Danware and it cannot handle the primary being the non top monitor in a vertical monitor configuration.

If anyone knows of a remote control product that truly handles multi monitor PC's I am greatly interested.
