Hello,

I have been researching the whole multi-monitor process for the past 3 days (all day long). And I could really use some advice!

I just ordered a second monitor for my Gateway Pent II, 333, ASTORIA motherboard system. I have contacted Gateway tech reps (several) and they have no idea whether my current STB 4MEG AGP with integrated DVD support revision 1, MPACT Mediaware 2 processor video card will support multi-monitor. Yes, I also contacted STB tech reps and the card was specially made to Gateway's specs, so they don't know either.

If I assume a worst case scenario of having to buy 2 video cards. Can someone give advice as to which cards would be the best to buy?

I don't want to spend a lot of money on these and I will only be using the monitors for business (daytrading) and sometimes using them for DVDs...BUT NO GAMING. My understanding is that 8 MEGs will suffice.

Should I get 2 PCI cards?
or 1 PCI and 1 AGP?

If my BIOS automatically say the PCI card is the primary card will I still be able to watch DVDs without an AGP card or with an AGP as the secondary?

This is great site...It has helped me out immensely in understanding the ins and outs of the multi-mon process. Thanks in advance!

If you can use the STB as primary card, you shouldn't have any problems with it. Any card should work as primary, but the secondary has to be multimon-compatible. Take a look at http://www.realtimesoft.com/multimon/shopping_guide.asp for some suggestions for a secondary card.

If your system supports setting the AGP as primary, DVD should work fine. DVD on the secondary card could be problematic as far as I know.

There will be soon Geforce2 MX based PCI cards available, its a sort of "value" Geforce but the performance is acceptable.
