Any recommendations for a pair of video cards for Windows 2000? I have a *strong* preference for a pair that allow me to run OpenGL with full hardware acceleration on both cards in windowed applications, with a full-featured OpenGL ICD.

I'm currently eyeing a GeForce 2 ($249 for an Annihilator Pro 2? Hell yeah!) and a 32 meg M64 TNT2. Any folks play around with that combination?

I've currently got a Matrox G400 Max, but am sick and tired of waiting for Matrox to release a driver that offers the dual head support they've been promising under Win2k. I love the card to death under Windows 98, which makes giving up on the thing so darn painful.

Any help would be appreciated.

This won't work, thanks to Nvidia's 5.22 drivers for Win2000 you only get hardware acceleration when disabling secondary monitors... and even if you use one of the earlier drivers that don't require disabling secondary monitors, you'll only get hardware acceleration on one monitor, at least this was the case with my TNT2 and TNT. See http://www.realtimesoft.com/multimon/ogl/ for more on this.

As far as I know, it is currently not possible to get fully-accelerated OpenGL on multiple monitors with Win2000. 3Dlabs has PCI versions of their VX1 and GVX1, and they are working on multimon OpenGL support. Appian Graphics have also told me that they'll add multimon OpenGL to their Win2000 driver for the Jeronimo 2000 multi-port card. And last but not least, ELSA will release a PCI version of their GeForce2 board in August (thanks Tairc!), hopefully their drivers will support multimon OGL.

Really? Boy, now I'm truly bummed. I was really looking forward to some real hardcore GL work; It's been a real pain trying to develop GL games under Win98.

I was recently working on a friends computer, and having his TNT-based STB Velocity 4400 available, I decided to throw in into my box for a quick test. I haven't added it to the database yet, but it worked just fine with the newest drivers from Nvidia. And, if I'm not mistaken, my G400's hardware acceleration was *completely* functional while the window'ed app (that 3D Labs flying plane thing) was on the G400's screen.

In addition, when I made the TNT the primary display and the leftmost monitor (where the app likes to open up), it was able to load up it's ICD as well.

But, as you stated, hardware acceleration only occurred on the primary monitor.

I still have that computer sitting here, so I may experiment with it's video card some more. I was just hoping that, if the TNT's ICD could keep from blowing up another company's ICD, it might be friendlier to another Nvidia card.

Oh well. I guess this gives me time to save up for ELSA's PCI GeForce...

I have a Annihilator2 and I cannot get multimon to work at all in win2000. My secondary card is a Diamond viper 550. I too replaced my g400 for the same reason as you but now I'm in even worse shape than I was with the G400. I can get the cards to work individually but not at the same time, there's always a conflict. I'm running dual P3 733s on a tyan Tiger 100 but I don't think my mobo (or its bios) are the problem. I also have a Viper 770 ultra that works perfectly with the 550 in win2000. If you get the card and get it to do multimon in win2000 please post or e-mail me a solution, I'm at my wits end but I refuse to put the G400 back in and I'd hate to put my GF2 in my "b" system (this card is great).

Success!!! Some Bios adjustments and I'm using the Detonators for both cards and all is well, finally.
