Hi
I just wanted to congratulate you on the new release. I do love the smart task bar feature WITH the XP look (before it really looked out of place) and the "Plus" Button really comes in handy.

Keep up the good work

Bye

Yes, defiantely nice release. B6 didnt install quite properly over B5 the first time round, but a uninstall/resintall of B6 fixed that, so all's good.

The 3 things that reall set this release apart for me are the new taskbar look, and the ability to drag (ive got rid of the buttons) maximised windows (even though i almost always use shortcut keys, sometimes its annoying to go click on somethign to move it, so i just drag it) and the additions to taskbar context menus...if i ever remote connect to my machine with say VNC, its nice that ill now can effictively hide things on the 2nd display, but still get at them by turning off the taskbar and using the context menus :P

You hovewer interfere with the hydravision buttons, they overlap. So i turned the hydravision ones off. works now.
Peter Balogh   2001-12-31 19:25
plus the buttons seem to be switched. The 4-arrowed one moves the window ?
Christian Studer   2002-01-01 00:53
Yes, the 4-arrow button is for moving the window. Click here for a description of all the buttons.

You should be able to use both UltraMon and HydraVision buttons. To do this, go to Options > Window Title Bar, then enter the number of custom buttons that HydraVision adds. This will cause UltraMon to shift its buttons to the left to make room for the others.

6 is looking really nice. I did find what would seem to be a bug though.

I have 2 applications that minimize to the system tray (TheBat emailer and EditPad). Never of these show up on the right taskbar (always showing up on the primary). It worked in the last release.

Also, when I turn off the window title buttons, they disappear then come right back, even though the checkboxes are off.

2 minor things I can easially live with :)

Great job.

Problem:
I dont know if its M$ related though. I have a quicklaunchbar (on the left side of the left monitor) and when i swith off the right monitor the bar opens (allways on top and autohide) but the icons are missing and it is transparent. If I switch back to dual monitor the launchbar is ok again.
Its not a specific tool its the classic quicklaunchbar.

Thanks for your bug reports Joe, both issues have been confirmed as bugs and should be fixed in Beta 7.

To apply new window button settings, you need to restart UltraMon manually. Click Close on the UltraMon menu, then launch UltraMon again from Start Menu > Programs > Startup.

Peter, an update on the HydraVision + UltraMon custom buttons issue: I just noticed that this feature actually doesn't seem to work at the moment, even if you enter the number of custom buttons added by other apps UltraMon doesn't make room for them. This should be fixed in the next Beta.

Regarding the QuickLaunch toolbar: that's most likely a Windows issue, I've seen this on my own system from time to time as well ,but usually not when disabling/re-enabling secondary monitors.

Can you rebuild the situation to see if theres some workaround maybe it is an Ultramon problem ? I mean it renders quicklaunchbar unusable in singlescreen. Even after restart this problem persists so its a stable error. Its allways happening.
Peter Balogh   2002-01-01 15:45
ohh and it is not happening if the bar is not on autohide it stays there after switching. If its hidden its not found after the switching to singlescreen.
Peter Balogh   2002-01-01 22:52
When switching monitors the icons are redrawn. This is not true for the quicklaunchbar. Sure that this is a XP fault ?
Christian Studer   2002-01-02 06:14
Definitely looks like an XP bug. I have been able to reproduce the problem, and it occurs with and without UltraMon running.

To verify this, do the following:
- move the UltraMon shortcut in Start > All Programs > Startup to a different folder so that UltraMon doesn't start automatically
- restart your system
- open Display Properties and manually disable the second monitor

cant you "recall" the window with Ultamon ? This would again make it better than regular monitor switch. I guess no... ?
Christian Studer   2002-01-02 09:02
Yes, UltraMon restores the original window positions when re-enabling secondary monitors.

sorry i meant can“t you redraw the launchbar after switching monitors ? It seems I have to look for a launchbar :(

Christian,

Beta 6 has some really nice improvements over 5. I may just purchase it when the trial expires. This raises a question: When will you stop calling it "beta"? I don't think many companies *sell* beta software, as you are doing. The way I understand it, beta has come to mean that the only price you pay is potential bugginess and time spent reporting and/or resolving bugs. I'm open to your interpretation.

The final 2.0 version should be out sometime in the first half of this year. There will be at least a Beta 7, after that I hope to be able to switch to a release candidate schedule.

With beta releases being available to the public, and mostly stable, it would be almost impossible to sell the 1.0 release. That's why the beta releases are sold as well. The customer can choose between using the final 1.0 version or the latest beta.

Regarding the Quick Launch toolbar: I did some further testing, it only happens if it is set to autohide, otherwise it works fine.

I don't think that there's a fix for this, I suggest you file a bug report with Microsoft.
